Two Railways in the Thompson Canyon

In the foreground there is an empty Canadian Pacific coal train returning to the coalfields. These are enormous trains, usually 110 or more large rail cars. They need 4 engines to get them through the Rockies. On the far side of the canyon there is the Canadian National railway track. The construction of these railways was an incredible feat and the Canadian Pacific Railway was a requirement for British Columbia to join Canada.

The Thompson River joins the Fraser a little south of this point and reaches the Pacific just near our house!
