Peles Castle Interior

We drove from Brasov to Bucharest, to start the final leg of our Romania trip. On the way we stopped at Peles Castle, near the the village of Sinaia. It was built from 1873 to 1914 by King Carol I, who gained Romania's independence. Its style is highly eclectic but depends above all on German influences, especially Saxon. Its use of wood, both outside, and inside as you see here, may be unique among royal edifices of this sort. We had the standard tour with an excellent guide; essentially every room was spectacular in one way or another. An extraordinary experience.

Afterward we descended to earth, with a sandwich lunch and arrival in Bucharest. Stay tuned :)
