My fun life

Piper Cub

So, today I was preflighting my airplane and getting ready to do a quick flight to a neighboring airport or do some take-offs and landings when I saw this great looking Piper Cub taxiing down the way. I remembered a friend of mine was going to take this plane up and I wanted to see it up close to get a photo. Piper Cubs have been a favorite of mine ever since I found out so many great aviators started out flying Piper Cubs. I waited to see him taxi over to the hangars and my friend said he was taking this guy up just in the pattern and if I had a few minutes to wait, he would take me up next. Well, what could I say but YES. So I quickly locked up my airplane, grabbed my camera and was off. That little airplane is the most fun to fly. Stick and rudder all the way. We taxied onto the runway and I was pulling the stick back to apply more weight to the back wheel. After we got up a little speed, I pushed the stick forward and it lifted off the back wheel. Once we got enough speed, I pulled back gently and it lifted off. That plane wants to fly.

This is a new Piper Cub, but it has kept some of the best features of the old models, like fabric wings, collapsible doors and windows that attach to the underside of the wings and a beautiful wooden propeller. It is 100 hp instead of 65, but why be in a hurry. What a treat to fly. Thanks Daniel.
