The Spire of St Mary's Church South Dalton E. Yor
Standing 208' in height and for me a wonder of
the County especially when caught in the late
afternoon sun. The Church was begun in 1858
and was lucky to have the patronage of a very
wealthy benefactor, Beaumont 3rd Baron Hotham,
as the cost rolled up to £25000.00 ! - about three
times the cost of many London churches of the
period - but no doubt none with a spire like this!
