Fungi Foray

These are some of the treasures we picked up when we joined Suffolk Wildlife Trust' s Fungi Foray at Knettishall Heath today.

We had an amazing couple of hours and found upwards of 50 different types of fungi 'just like that.'

Very few of them, however, were edible, and we did find a couple that were seriously poisonous, including a Death Cap that will slay you within hours. Like many a serial killer it looks most unremarkable. You wouldn't think it of it!

I must say, Patrick's expression is particularly pleasant for a man who has been detailed by his wife to carry the (very ripe) Stink Horn she found. It's that hilariously shaped white object on top of all the others. In addition to being shaped like something improper it smells as if it died a couple of months ago and was never buried - hence its name.
