The cone of shame

Work day - this absolutely beautiful and very affectionate cat is Poppy who had a road traffic accident a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday he had further surgery to remove his beautiful tail which had not recovered as we'd hoped from it's injuries. Poppy will not wear one of these buster collars and had spent most of last night licking his stitches out. I put this shorter collar on and he went crazy, back flipping and yowling in his kennel - not great with a healing pelvic fracture. His owner is not very caring and we needed to make sure his wound wouldn't open at home so the collar was essential. In despair one of the nurses suggested letting him out the small kennel and into my room - genius , he calmed down and sulked for a couple of hours over lunch and then went back into the kennel wearing his come of shame without any fuss. The simplest ideas are usually the best.
