Animal Blessings

Today, I happened upon an event I wasn't familiar with: the blessing of animals at the National Cathedral in D.C.

A couple hundred people showed up with their pets, let them have fun with each other, then listened to some prayers and lined up to have their animals blessed by church officiants. The majority of the pets were dogs -- all shapes and sizes, some old or disabled enough to be ferried around in carriages. A handful of cats represented the feline size of the animal kingdom, smugly looking down onto the rowdy crow of dogs :)
