Volunteers

After a long lie-in we went up to the allotment to do a bit of tidying and a lot of harvesting. I was removing a couple of the last remaining old broad bean plants and found these two little fellers fresh sprouted from a couple of this year's stray beans. I find from the seed saving book that broad beans are rather promiscuous and are unlikely to breed true, but I don't think there were any others flowering nearby at the same time apart from Willie's next door, and they were the same variety. I won't be sowing the seed for next year for a month or so, but we'll let these do their thing and see how they get on.

We returned home, carrying a bag full of of green stuff, via a visit to Lidl. Lidl is that rarest of things, a supermarket I enjoy visiting. Can't always get everything you need there, but there's always something novel that you didn't realise you needed! And they don't have those self-service tills with the tedious mechanical voices.....
