Tethered

One of the great new features of the version 2.0 firmware for the Olympus E-M1 is that it supports tethering of the camera to either an Apple OSX or Windows computer, with a free application to run on the host. It's probably irrelevant to many users, but if you do any studio photography (which I do frequently - museum and other inanimate objects, not people!) this is a real benefit, and, if you have an E-M1(!) it is FREE! Trying to judge lighting/shadows/reflections etc on the small camera LCD (with no proper colour management) is difficult to say the least, but with a computer it is much easier. Of course there is WiFi as well, but tethering is so much faster and more effective in the studio.

Coincidentally, Panasonic have launched tethering for the GH4 at almost exactly the same time, but you have to pay (a fairly modest amount) for a Windows program to go with the camera firmware capability, it is not nearly as slick as the Olympus one, and there is no support for the Mac. Many other manufacturers do not have tethering support, or you pay a lot to buy an application to support it.

I'm doing some photography in a local church later this week (and lots more studio photos at the BCLM I hope in the future), so the E-M1 with the new firmware and a computer will now be first choice. I wish they would/could do a Fuji, and offer this facility for my E-M5s as well!
