Music Lessons

Sally has been sent home with a heavy shiny thing. It will live in the car. Once a week it will be lugged to school and lugged home again. At Christmas we will receive a letter from her Music Teacher saying something like 'five to ten minutes practise every day would greatly help'. I shall write back, politely, suggesting Sally goes round to her house to practise for five to ten minutes every day, because that would greatly help me. I will never hear from the Music Teacher again. In June, we will be invited to the School Wind and Brass Concert where Sally will play either the triangle (Grace's year) or the tambourine (Tom's year). At the end of the year we will give back the heavy shiny thing and say no more about it.

It is beautiful to look at. We just don't know what to do with it.
