New College Lanarkshire Board: Taking up the reins

Tonight I spoke at the very first meeting of the New College Lanarkshire Board after taking up its new strategic responsibilities for the delivery of college based education throughout Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire.

We discussed the importance of the new legislation, how the colleges in Lanarkshire will relate to one another under the new legislative arrangements, and what the next steps are.

However, to me the most important contribution of the evening came from the student member of the board who talked eloquently about how the student body was organising itself and how it was going to take matters forward.

Let us hope the positivity of the meeting provides a springboard for future success in the interest of all learners in the region.
