This pile of shells washed up by a recent storm reminded me of the little rhyme I have quoted in my subject name. This was not where we live but over on the east coast,which is just a two hour drive from the west coast! The shells were all of the same species except for the little piece of paua [abalone] shell which my grand son had found.The interior of the paua shell has these wonderful colours and is often used for jewelry.We love to eat the flesh when we are lucky enough to find some.
