Moorish Castle

Anyone and everyone has fought and fortified Elvas: the Romans, the Moors, the Portuguese, the Moors back again, the Portuguese (and maybe more shuttle cocking by the Moors and Portuguese until the 1200s, then tussles between the Portuguese and the Spanish, and to cap it all Wellington based himself here in the early eighteen hundreds with Spanish and Portuguese ( who had become friendly) to fight the French.
No surprise then that our hotel was at one time, a hospital.
