Where's King Canute when you need him

Today I visit the Basilica San Marco, as a tourist you have to. It's packed full of tour groups being led around by tour guides waving a variety of objects in the air so their sheep.. I mean clients ... don't get lost. All in all an unpleasant experience but then I'm sure my presence didn't help any .

On the way out the tide was coming in. The reason for the raised platforms around the Basilica becomes apparent. I took this pic at the far end of the Piazza San Marco where the water was more shallow but still too deep for my trainers. Wet feet were the order of the day. It's not just Polar Bears being impacted by global warming.
