Icelandic Ponies
Day two... Today we decided that we needed four wheel drive instead of the two wheel drive Auris we had originally rented. We'd decided to go to Dettifoss, Iceland's most impressive waterfall, but we found to get there we needed to drive 25kms down a "secondary" road - one that hire cars aren't allowed on. There was no other way of getting to the waterfall, so we high tailed it to the nearest Europcar depot at Husavik airport and swapped for a Vitara. Much better... Graham even has space to stretch his legs out now!
While we were in Husavik, we had a nosy round the harbour and took a few pics, some lovely architecture in the form of a church, and a few fishing boats. We also saw a seal swimming about having a good nose at us. It must have been so obvious to anyone looking that we were tourists!
We then decided to go home, as there is a church next to the house and the evening sun would be falling on it. On the way there the sun was gradually sinking lower and lower, causing the landscape to be lit with a golden glow. We saw some Icelandic ponies eating by the side of a stream, and were instantly grateful we'd changed car as we were then able to drive off the road and park up, grab cameras and start shooting. I'm a bit rusty - not taken a load of photos since the Lake District in May, so this isn't as good as I hoped, but I'm still quite pleased with it. Incidentally, we missed the evening sun falling on the church!
Back to Husavik tomorrow, and whale watching - can't wait!!
