Untranslatable

So ... Mr PP carries a tray of coffee across the cafe without spilling a drop UNTIL he places it on the table, at which point my cup slops. So ... I get some of the tiny, thin paper serviettes to catch the drips, but in sliding them under the cup manage to make more coffee slop out. This perfectly illustrates the German verb verschlimmbessern, which means to make something worse when trying to improve it. Wouldn't it be great if the English language had one word to say that!
