Older statue v modern construction
I liked the contrast of this bronze statue of 4 women in a park in Lahti, Finland against the crane in the background representing the modern construction in the city.
My photo of these 4 women was taken in Kirkkopuisto, on the edge of a beautiful little park near the centre of Lahti, Finland. Called Maidens of Laune, the bronze is in the northern end of Kirkkokatu, next to the Church of the Cross. It is a monument made of red granite and bronze. Nicer detail in large.
It depicts four women holding plates above their heads. The water is flowing from these plates when the fountain is turned on.
The statue is signed: Kari Juva 1987. It was a donation to the city of Lahti by Mallasjuoma at its 75th anniversary. The Finnish Sculptor Kari Juva was born in Helsinki in 1939.
It is a beautifully crafted work of art with a fountain flowing down the side of the sculpture to the base, and set in a small square pond. Being early winter, the fountain had been turned off.
