Red Hot

A busy day for both of us.
The garlic is planted. It took me longer than usual to separate the cloves from the bulbs. On quite a few of the cloves, the protective skin started to tear away, so those cloves were set aside for roasting. The house is now filled with the aroma of roasted garlic, and the cloves will be frozen when they cool. We bought some lovely seed garlic from our friends at Duck Creek Farm, and it's nice to have seed from someone local. Two years ago, I bought the seed from a gardener just down the road. Last year, we bought it from a farm stand in the Okanagan. Both grew well, and I'm interested to see how this crop will turn out. I'd like to grow enough to use our own for seed, but it's hard when we have quite a small garden.
G worked hard all day cleaning up and burning all kinds of debris from the forest. A couple from up the road stopped in as they saw the smoke while they were walking the trail beside our place. The guy asked G if it was safe to burn - he doesn't know that G has tons of experience working in the bush and fighting forest fires and would never ever do this if it wasn't safe! Of course he's cleared the area right around the fire, has hoses connected to the outside tap just in case, and will be monitoring the fire right up until bedtime. He's the most careful person I know.
