Saklikent Gorge

means a hidden city in Turkish. This huge and fabulous canyon was cut out of the mountain by an earthquake hundreds of years ago. It's the second longest gorge in Europe (18 km) with a river flowing right through it. To get to the gorge you have to wade though freezing water holding hands in a line to keep balance on slippery stones. It's a beautiful place and we wanted to go as far as possible, but a thunder storm with heavy rain made us leave the gorge in a rush. Scared of a flash flood we followed other tourist back to the entrance. We got to the car soaken wet but happy - the others who came later were not allowed to enter the canyon at all.
