Mt. Diablo Under a Cloud

Mt. Diablo has been under a cloud recently because there has been an effort to change its name to Mt. Reagan (after the former California governor, former President of the United States, and former actor). Yesterday, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors voted to send a letter to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names opposing the name change.

Most locals want to retain the name Mt. Diablo, which has been in use since the early nineteenth century. Those who want to rename it object to its bearing the name of the devil.
