San Fran Tram Fan

**Backblip**
The main plan for this holiday was to be a week mostly chilling out in the sunshine, as the others were city breaks which involved lots of sightseeing and walking. But one place that I definitely wanted to visit was Valdemossa, one of the prettiest rural villages in Mallorca. It's set in the hills of the Tramuntana range and we hired a car for the day driving down the motorway towards Palma, then veering off, driving through some beautiful countryside, the altitude getting higher and higher as we drove through the mountains.

Valdemossa lived up to its billing, most houses in the narrow streets had flowers in hanging baskets or next to the doorway, found a fantastic bakery and tasted some traditional Mallorcan cakes and pastries.

Next port of call was Port de Soller, about half an hour away, the roads turning into hairpin bends passing stunning coastline, through Deia then through Soller to the Port. It was boiling down by the marina, so we headed into a fish restaurant, sout out in the shade overlooking the Marina drinking fresh lemonade and Majorcan Marmalade cake. Delicious.

On our way, heading north back to Port de Pollensa, through the mountains. The road was getting steadily steeper and steeper and the bends totally bending back on each other. I was so glad that we weren't on the coast side as in some bits there wasn't much of a barrier then a giant drop to the sea...... Then I had the worst experience as we turned round a bend meeting a bus that was half on our side of the road. I shut my eyes and screamed, the passengers on the bus probably heard me as I thought we were done for but luckily my husband kept calm even although his ears were ringing with the screams and he somehow avoided us being squashed against the rock face in the little tin box Panda. My heart was thudding out of my skin.... There was more hairy bends and more drops to the valley below.... I thought the road up to the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus and a death road in Crete were bad but this one....

Anyway, arrived back safe and sound (thanks honey) but my shoulders were tense hanging on to the car seat so stopped at the 1919 Cafe Bar and had a Mojito. Soothed...

This picture is taken at Port de Soller, there is a rail line that goes from the Port to Soller and on the line are real trams from San Franciso. They were heaving with passengers.
