ArtPrize 2014 "Mudpuppy" is a sculpture that most art critics would hate. To put such effort into what the artist, says is “a monumental, outdoor sculpture depicting a diver taking his bulldog for a walk on the ocean floor” makes absolutely no sense—but what fun to look at it!

The imaginative breathing equipment worn by both diver and dog brings out the kid in me.Then there is the incongruity of the umbrella, and the shear size—the dog is big as a grizzly bear. Click to see the owner at the other end of the leash, Taking a Walk.

Dan Chudzinski constructed the "Mudpuppy" from steel, brass, fiberglass, canvas, and an assortment of modified found objects. The bulldog has a mud flap on his butt.

ArtPrize 2014, the world’s largest art competition is happening in Grand Rapids, with over 1500 works on display.
