Hard today to appreciate the power of the sun as it has not appeared at all but this shot shows an experimental solar panel which generates enough power to heat the water and the living space of Illieston Castle, just outside Broxburn West Lothian.

A little group from our allotment association, interested in the possibilities of exploring solar powered water heating for our 'club hut', went out to the castle today by kind invitation of the owner to have a look at what is being done in Illieston, a fascinating visit.

This 25 metre square panel generates enough power to heat 1200 gallons of stored water....

Despite my total lack of any scientific understanding (not an O grade to my name sadly) I was intrigued and impressed by what it seems is being done out here.
