Change of Direction
It was great to stay in bed a bit longer than usual. I really did need a good sleep.
It was nearly mid-day by the time I got out on the bike. I've got a tough climb out of the village and the legs objected. I contemplated turning back but that would be weak! Hmmm....where could I go when my legs are working like a bag of tatties? I know.....let's do the classic Snake Pass climb.....it's only 5km.
I was a bit over dressed and sweat was continually dripping in my eyes...argh! Stingy! I then swooped down the other side....even though my plan had been to u-turn at the top of the climb! Reaching Bamford I decided doing a circular route was a bad idea as I'd have to do some challenging climbs. Rather, I turned back over the 15km gentle ascent to the top of Snake again! The last 1km is the hard bit and sweat started to drip in my eyes again, the legs started to burn and my lungs were working in overdrive.
This suffering was fun but what pained me was seeing how much litter was around! It's the middle of a National Park for goodness sake! I love people but sometimes humanity disgusts me! What kind of person thinks it's ok to throw stuff out their car window?
Getting back to the village, I went straight to the farm shop for Saturday treats....the banofee cheesecake was nice but it made me feel sick afterwards as it was so large. I quickly fell asleep! WhenI awoke I got tomorrow's kit ready....I was going running in the Peak so prepared for the worst....full waterproofs, map, compass, extra layer, gloves, first aid etc. Goodness me, a few years ago I used to protest at carrying more than my house keys!
