Remnants of a Sardine Factory
This shot was taken in Lubec, Maine, the eastern most town in the continental U.S. It is as far "Down East" as one may travel before crossing the bridge to Campobello Island, New Brunswick, which is part of Canada. Lubec has a rich history of various successful industries, including ship building and sardine factories, herring smoke houses, as well as saw mills and grist mills and of course, smuggling. After the sardine and herring industries collapsed these fishermen turned mostly to lobstering, which continues to this day. An economic recovery program in early stages of development includes aquaculture in the form of salmon farms and tourism and will hopefully bring economic relief to this area. The bridge in the background is the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge which connects Lubec and Campobello Island.
This is a full frame shot and once again, sorry about the spots on my sensor.
