Oakwell Hall

I had intended walking the nature trail today, but I didn't actually get very far as the cold and damp put me off - but I was invited to return on Saturday morning to take part in the weekly jog around the parkland. (I didn't know whether to take it as a compliment that I could manage it, or fall about laughing) - so I did neither.

In the 19th century the hall was used as a girls school which was attended by Charlotte Brontë's close friend Ellen Nussey. Charlotte Brontë visited the hall and was inspired to use it as the setting for the manor house - Fieldhead, in her novel Shirley.
