The Grenville Aisle
This is the family vault of the Grenville family which is located in All Saints Church at Wotton Underwood. The Grenvilles were the Lords of the Manor at the nearby Wotton House.
The church itself dates from the 1300s, in fact the South Aisle was built in 1343 as a Chantry but rebuilt in 1710 to become the final resting place of all Grenvilles.
The South Pavillion which is a large house adjacent to Wotton House was the home of Sir John Gielgud until year 2000 and more recently it was purchased by Tony & Cherie Blair for £4m !! The Blair's eldest son was married at All Saints in 2013.
Trip to dentist 1st thing then on to Edison Cl to collect my striplight. FRom there on to Tescos to get some emergency supplies for C's Girlie get-together at lunchtime. Then at 12 it was the chiropodist....
Horrible horrible wet day & I got soaked as I walked Wotton churchyard which has lots of interesting stones including the grave of a WWI soldier who was killed the day before Armistice.
