Grand P
A visit planned for this afternoon was cancelled late yesterday so I was able to get some work done this morning and set off for a 3 hour drive at my leisure. Unfortunately I managed to time it perfectly to get caught in a major hold up on the M5; it was closed for a period and I was stuck in that. I always recognise that this is a minor inconvenience in comparison with the people involved in the accident so I remained chilled.
Because I'm hip to health and stuff I have a bottle of water in the car so I can stay hydrated. Sadly the designers at Saab don't have the same forethought so there isn't a toilet in the car. Thus when the motorway finally cleared and I could accelerate back to 69 mph I was hoping I didn't have too far to go. By the time I hit the outskirts of town I was driving with my legs and eyes crossed.
I managed to find the hotel and the car park, which is pay & display, and along the road a ways. Fumbling for change I was struck with how well-lit the car park was and well-equipped with CCTV; not welcome in my predicament. A sprightly jog along the street with my overnight bag and in to reception. "There seems to be a problem with your booking Mr Gibson..........". Thank God my pelvic floor is still robust but I gave a little dance as the folk on reception decided that I hadn't already checked in after all. There must be some European funding available to research why the room one is allocated is always further away when it is needed urgently.......
Now I'm relieved and I've had a brief walk. Chris de Burgh has a line "There's nothing quite like an out of season holiday town in the rain"; it came to mind as I trudged along in the drizzle and then I saw the Grand Pier and noticed their sign had been adjusted just for me tonight.
Greetings from Weston-super-Mare
