Thornton Force
Standing on the edge of the river, looking over the drop into the peaty brown pool of churning water, where river water thundered down, one could have been forgiven for thinking you were in a tropical rainforest. The spray filtered upwards and a butterfly flitted past in and around the limestone cracks and crevices before disappearing into the oak trees - well I didn't expect to see that!
Walking up the River Twiss at Ingleton in North Yorkshire this afternoon was a treat, with the rain just holding off for me as I trudged with camera gear up the steep inclines. The scenery was stunning; the oak woodland just starting to change into it's autumn colours and with last night's rain the waterfalls too were looking pretty impressive. It was slightly damp and dank on the way up to Thornton Force but it didn't matter as this was nature at it's best and well worth the effort.
