Volunteer

My granddaughter has signed up to help a local group of coaches who offer a soccer class to "special needs" children. When there are enough helpers each player is teamed up, one-on-one, with a helper. She is shown here with her team-mate for the evening's game.

Before, during, and after the game she acted like it was no big deal but
I was so proud of her my chest was tight, my eyes were burning, and my throat was full of a big lump.

The game ended in a tie. One of the coaches told me that they've been playing these games once a week during the season for fifteen years and every game has ended in a tie.


Tonight's score was 8 to 8. ........ A fine score indeed!
