No color rainy day

No amount of manipulation in Lightroom could brighten the sky in this photo - indicative of the grey rainy day! I am trying (as I have for most of the past week) to capture the stark and beautiful transition of the season that occurs in Moscow.

This is the Church of St. Nicholas in Khamovniki, which dates back to the 17th century. It was the parish church of a weavers 'sloboda', a sloboda being a kind of urban colony of industrial workers that ran it own affairs (and in most cases stayed out of the way of taxation). Interestingly, the church was one of few churches that was not shut down during the Soviet era.

It's a beautiful structure and deserves another, 'full frontal', blip in future!
