Previously unnoticed
A very early start today - having worked late last night, I stayed in London as it's quicker to get to Manchester from there than it is from Birmingham (bizarre, I know). So I was at Euston by 6.05 this morning, ready for the speedy journey north.
I come to Euston a lot, but generally during more sociable hours, and the concourse is usually packed. So I've never noticed this huge statue, which is right in the middle!
Apparently it's Captain Matthew Flinders - a distinguished English navigator and cartographer, who was the first to circumnavigate Australia. I'm not sure why his presence is so pertinent to Euston. I particularly liked his cat (who seems quite uninterested in his master!)
