what we did today...

hoooooo....

The boys have become tree ID experts this week. This blip is them on a night walk through the wood testing each other on trees. C was insisting D didn't feel the leaves and was only allowed to ID them from torch light. The reason for the night walk was to listen for owls. We heard lots of male tawny owls calling "whoo" to each other, but no "terwit" to complete the call though. We had a right pair of owls trying to make owl noises like their Granddad can...I'm not sure the local owls were convinced!

I was surprised at quite how much bounce the boys still have after their walk up Kings How today. They thought they were just taking me to see the Bowderstone - a bizarre rock with a wooden ladder to the top dating originally from Victorian times. We continued on to a river to throw stones, and then tricked the boys into walking over a hill back to the car. D fare shifted up the hill, leaving big bro and grandparents in his wake. C was a bit perturbed that the way back to the car park went over a bigger hill - esp when the grown ups missed the path down and we had to double back. Great that they both managed a decent walk and we all had a fab time.

Our night walk has inspired torchlit adventures, and after we've had torchlit supper and we will now have torchlit bedtime!
