A veritable feast for the eyes
Which photo to choose to represent today.......
A difficult one, this, as blipfoto only allows you to post one photo per day. As a result of my outing tonight I could have posted one of many. The occasion? "Ladies' night" at the Gemeente Museum (a museum/gallery in The Hague and a beautiful 1930's structure, in itself an piece of art). Currently the museum is housing a Rothko exhibition (until March 2015 - so those of you interested, get over here and come and see us!! We could have an artfest - the Mauritshuis one day, for your Dutch masters, the Gemeente museum the next, for Mondrian and Rothko and then nip up to Amsterdam for a bit of Van Gogh at the Rijksmuseum!) and tonight the museum hosted, what I can only describe as, an evening of fashion and art.
So, first of all, the picture I have chosen......a lovely, young lady makes these shoes (or are they, themselves, works of art?). The pair to the right have, as their frontal decoration, false nails that are used in such a way so as to look like fringing!! Another pair, hidden in the background, feature staples to create the desired effect. All were hand-crafted - I only wish I could walk in them. Truly fabulous.
The Rothko exhibition itself, I loved (I will definitely revisit this and post a blipfoto entry, so more about that another day). Unbeknownst to me, the museum also houses the world's largest collection of Mondrian works, and on one wall they have placed both Rothko's and Mondrian's final works (surely, yet another blipfoto entry).
Finally - a very exciting moment - there was a further exhibition of 19th century dress, but in the entrance there were four costumes from the 1995, BBC adaption of Pride and Prejudice, including (gasp, faint, swoon) the suit worn by Mark Darcy, aka Colin Firth. (There was a large notice forbidding anybody from touching the clothing - but it was very tempting!)
