Plemont Bay
The bus service in Jersey is very good and we have taken advantage of their Avanchicard which takes us anywhere on the island. Although the island is small there are lots of roads and bus routes, so today we took the bus to the north west of the island and walked a cliff path to Plemont Bay, passing the ruins of Grosnez Castle on the way. This was a 14th century fortification and it is believed it was destroyed by the French. There is not much left of it. From the ruins you can see Guernsey, Jethou, Herm and Sark, and also Alderney and the coast of Normandy to the east. I couldn't make out the latter two though.
From the castle we continued along the cliff path. Care had to be taken at times, but the path had been well made a long time ago. A couple from the Netherlands and an English couple were also doing this walk, the Dutch couple strode off very quickly, the English couple paused for a cuppa before starting, so we were spread out, although we did catch up with the Dutch couple at one time as they took a 'short cut' which proved to be difficult and we stuck to the main route and did it more quickly. It was nice though to see each other on the path at times.
When we reached Plemont Bay we went down the many steps to the Beach Cafe, which was really nice; from there there are a series of more steps leading down to the beach. This beach has a lot of 'danger' signs up as it appears that the tide comes in very fast and the seas can get very rough here. We were told that Jersey has very high tides and they have to be respected.
Took the bus back to St. Helier and had a walk around the town and the Marina before dinner.
Another beautiful day.
