Patiently waiting..
for the squirrel to notice her..
I had spotted the squirrel feasting on sweet chestnuts on top of the fence and was creeping slowly up to get a photo with my long lens.. when Flossie spotted it.. she did the best bit of stalking I have ever seen and got within about 6 feet of the hungry squig. It didn't move.. so busy was it avoiding getting prickled by the shell of the nut!! Suddenly from a distant tree the warning went up .. Kak kak kak!!!.. the squirrel dropped the nut, pirhoutted on the top of the fence and took off with Flossie in hot pursuit! It was joined by three other squirrels who all leapt up onto the top of the fence and leapt the gap like yesterdays one!! Having reached safety they shouted in alarm from the top of the tree.. Flossie realised she was never going to get them there and trotted merrily on down the hill to continue with her walk. I spied two more squirrels not far off.. (I have a height advantage.. my horizons are further away than Flossies!) but by the time she could see where they had been they had already taken off..
The wildlife count (of note) for this afternoons walk was 5 squirrels, 4 red kite, 6 partridge and 3 rabbit.. and evidence of badger (not rolled in by you know who!)
I had a lovely lunch with a friend on her way to deliver a puppy to France.. wow!! Hope she comes back with some good Cognac!!
Larger large :)
