From rubbish to a flash of joy!
This was one of those days which definitely got better as it went along.
Over the last week, I have been doing loads of tidying up and clearing out junk. Yesterday, after I had logged off work I had a good go in my front room office and got rid of a load of training manuals, broken mice, disks and even a couple of mainframe disk drive tapes. My hair was white with clouds of dust when I was finished but it was worth it!
This morning I was a bit dismayed to discover that I had misplaced my Secure ID token which generates passwords for me to log onto work. I have an app on my phone that does the job too so I was able to log in today but being of a pessimistic nature, I never like having only one way to get in!
When I took a break mid morning, I fed the birds and squirrels and then with a sigh, donned rubber gloves and went through the dustbin twice looking for my missing token. Yuck! No joy but when I glanced up from yesterday's stinking potato peelings and other rubbish, I was amazed to see more of my feathered friends than I'd seen in ages.
Lucky and Eric, with two collard doves were waddling about on the patio, two magpies wandered around on the lawn and several noisy starlings were arguing over mealworms on the feeder. I took off my rubber gloves and picked up my camera as suddenly, my new first time beautiful visitor flew in and hung onto the fat balls! I was so shocked and could hardly believe I was looking at a woodpecker! He wasn't timid either ignoring the starlings and swinging on the suet cake cages with the best of them and then perching on the edge of a feed dish.
Seeing this glorious creature made my world seem so much brighter. I'd heard woodpeckers in the trees for such a long time but never seen more than a fleeting glimpse and flash of red before today. I took so many pictures, it took a while to decide which one was best. I hope he comes back!
Go large!
I floated back into the front room to go back to work and straight away saw my Secure ID token sitting on the table under my laptop stand. How mad is that?! I think the moral of this story might be that you could be up to your elbows in rubbish one moment searching for something you may never find, but there is a bright future around the corner. You just need to look in the right place.
This applies to disappointments and bleak times in life and not just to rubbish and Secure ID tokens!
