Theatre visits us

We don't get many opportunities in Guernsey to go to the theatre to watch a play, musical or another type of performing arts production but today a theatre company from the UK visited our school.

Three actors from Rhubarb Theatre Co. performed an hour's theatrical performance which involved mainly mime, music, singing, dance, puppetry, masks and fantastic scenery and costumes. The children from 7-11 years of age were mesmerized, and so was I! It's not often that our children are exposed to theatre, especially where clever symbolic theatrical devices are used to depict not just the storyline but underlying themes. Loved the humour that was pitched at adult level too!

Got the chance to experience one of the workshops in the afternoon too which re inspired my teaching of drama. They also demonstrated, in a very clever way, how the characters can get the audiences attention on a particular character or distract the audience from a character's costume or scenery change.

Love an out of the ordinary school day:-) especially when it's so worthwhile for the children:-)
