GWR Pannier 1501 leaving Norden Station
This steam locomotive was built in 1949. It is on temporary loan from Severn Valley Railway to Swanage Railway, as part of this weekend's Autumn Steam Gala.
The bridge just visible above is part of the now redundant Furzebrook Railway, which transported clay from the Furzebrook workings to Ridge Wharf. It was originally a horse-drawn tramway; it was then converted to a railway with a gauge of 2 feet 8½ inches. The line was closed in 1943.
CORRECTION (21 Sept 2014)
The bridge - known as the "Skew Bridge" - was part of Fayle & Company's Tramway, transporting clay from Norden to Goathorn Pier, on Poole Harbour. (The Furzebrook workings were owned by Pike Brothers and had their own railway, as described in the preceding paragraph; Ridge Wharf is on the river Frome, close to Poole Harbour.)
