Meanwhile, back at the heronary....

..... the herons stood very still for me so that I could photograph them. 'I can't get you all in guys,' I said, 'could you squeeze up a bit?' They demurred. It seems that they have this idea in their heads that if they stand still for long enough, that people will think they're statues. I told them I could get them all in one shot if they just stood a wee bit closer together, and I even offered them a short course on 'feeling comfortable while being a bit more adjacent to a fellow heron.' They demurred. I counted 16 herons.
