Picasso: Monument to Apollinaire

Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918) was a French poet and friend of Pablo Picasso, who planned a monument to his memory. It was finally realized in 1959, as a sculpted portrait of Dora Maar, one of Picasso's numerous lovers. The sculpture stands in a small park next to the abbey of St. Germain des Pres--the oldest church in Paris (originally erected in the 6th century).

Today's outing (under the usual cloudy skies) took us to an exhibition of Flemish drawings at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. On the way we crossed the Pont Neuf, and afterwards passed St. Germain des Pres, before ducking into the Metro to head home.
