Grandma's Gift

I heard the rain on the roof this morning. I peeked out my back window and saw the white iris just waking up to the coming spring. The white iris that my Grandma Kay had given me, "plant these bulbs under the tree, they are the white iris". My Gram instilled the love of flowers in me. She would ask me to go into her backyard with her, and proceed to tell me again, the names of each flower. She would also be sure to point out the ones that the 'birds had brought'. Those where the ones that she didn't plant, that came up voluntarily, the ones 'the birds brought'. :']

I knew I must shoot this today in her memory. I miss her very much. She was a wonderful cook, a gifted artist. She could knit, crochet and tat like nobody's business. She could look at a doily and replicate it without a pattern. She graduated to the 6th grade and then was the caregiver to her younger brothers and sisters. She taught my daughter to hopscotch, yes, she was in her 80's and they were out in the yard with the pink and concrete colored block ground, hopscotching. Wow, we did that when I was little too.

She would have loved this shot, she said she didn't really like cats, but knew all the cats in her neighborhood. I think she really did like them.

Thank you Gram, for your gift of the love of flowers and your energy for being creative and crafty, for giving me my mom, and loving me always.

You were the best, and I never really considered, when you gave me these iris bulbs, that you would be with me still!!!! :)

Food for thought:
Love those around you, call your grandma, mom or children, just to say 'HI' and don't forget to pass on a loving legacy!!!
