Border

Despite the fact that it might rain I decided that I would clear another border ready for Winter and Spring so that we could see the bulbs as they appear. I was going to do this, until either it rained or I had completed the border. There is a large Elder tree in this border and today the GOG drilled a hole in it so that we could poison it. There are a lot of Elders in this garden, but this one is more of a nuisance in the border than the others that are mainly along the boundaries.

However after I had finished the border I decided to pick up some more windfalls from the old Apple tree, which is by the drive; planted in the wrong place by other people. I filled the wheelbarrow and took the windfalls over to the orchard placing them by the ‘path’, which the deer use to get into the garden.

Then I decided to have a go at the kitchen drain, as the water had not been flowing as well as it should do. There were a lot of leaves covering part of it, but some of the pipes were also blocked. With the help of the GOG we soon cleared it; all-in-all a very productive day.

Today’s picture shows just one end of the border, which I have cleared. It does not look much, but before I started, as well as other assorted weeds, the stinging nettles, which covered the entire border were about eighteen inches high; this is the fifth time I have cleared this border since the Spring. The only plant visible before I started was the one with the red stalks and leaves. I can now see the tiny Alpine Cyclamen plants, one of which is in flower.
