Burial site...

This huge tent has appeared on Cross Street. It's part of the work being done for the route of the second tram crossing. When the Victorians widened Cross Street and lined it with grand commercial buildings they pushed the street through the graveyard of the Cross Street Chapel. No thought seems to have been given to the sanctity of the ground or the people buried here.

We live in more thoughtful times. Each of the people buried here will be removed and reburied, with all due care, in a plot in Southern Cemetery. While the work is being done the body's privacy will be maintained, keeping them out of the gaze of a curious public, inside this tent.
