Scrawny Old Man

Cross country

Looking across the grounds of Stirling University to the Ochils. I was there with a Dundee Road Runners team for the East District League cross country fixture.
There were only three of us - Jane ran in the women's race, I was in the men's race and John didn't run because of injury but took over 1300 photos. I took one. There was a better view from the furthest out point in the race, of the hills in sunshine with a dark sky behind, but I was racing then.
The women had to do 2 laps of the course that twisted round the grounds with plenty of ups and downs. Jane came back saying the second lap was hard. Thanks for that - we had to do 3 (9km).
It was pretty hard going but I enjoyed it more on the last lap, knowing what was coming and being more confident on the downhills after being a bit nervous because of the finger I dislocated in a race 2 weeks ago. I relished the little ups and downs because I gained on people on the steep bits.
This was my first ever cross country race and they certainly keep you humble - all the quick people come out and after being 26th of 273 and 23rd of 87 in the two Lakeland Trail races 2 weeks ago, this time I was 182nd of 230. Think I ran OK for me though.
