Dungeness

Dungeness nature reserve has the biggest vegetated shingle area in Europe (apparently this is rarer than rainforest); Derek Jarman's shingle garden (full of driftwood sculpture) AND the best beach combing I've had the pleasure of enjoying: so much to discover. It helps that it's on the "corner" between the North Sea and the English Channel: there are lots of cross currents to wash things up.

After a morning's strenuous collecting - shingle walking is a good workout - we had fish & chips at The Pilot and headed back to London, happy with our Kentish weekend.
