Standing Room Only
It has been a day for WI, the Women's Institute.
Firstly there was a whole day meeting where representatives from the 176 WIs in Surrey met to listen to good speakers, hear news of our organisation and meet friends from all over the county. The main speaker was Pippa Greenwood, a regular panellist on Gardeners' Question Time.
My blip shows the stylish swimming pool next door to the meeting hall where some of us escape at lunchtime.
This evening saw the second meeting of the possible new WI in the village - this will be the fourth WI. We did not know how well it would take off, but this evening there were 95 people there! There weren't enough chairs and it was quite a crush and very noisy! The excitement was amazing and they are full of plans, the first of which is to find a bigger venue! They are already planning their stall for Bookham Village Day next June! I can bow out now they are under way, but they will still need help and advice from the county for a little while. I wish them luck, I'm sure they will be a super WI.
