Jane Austen

Jane Austen live near Overton and here brother was involved with our village church. Apparently her diary said she shopped in the village and left Hampshire, departing on a coach from Overton to Bath in 1801 with her parents.

This blue plaque is on the Barclays branch in town (you can see the CCTV in the top left) and is on the site of the assembly rooms which she apparently attended.
