Sandra Leckie - Salt Spring Island, Canada

Camera Seven

"One idiomatic definition, from "Answers.com," is that the phrase "straight goods" is used to describe the truth. For example: "Is that straight goods about how much you still owe?" or "I'm giving you the straight goods about Monica."

Today a good number of Salt Spring islanders gave our premier and prime minister the straight goods about our feelings about proposed plans to expand the pipelines carrying oil from the Alberta tar sands to coastal ports in BC. The oil would be loaded into hundreds of tankers a year to be shipped to Asian markers. Any accidents that resulted in spills would devastate the marine and coastal environments.

I received camera Seven for the when you're a stranger blip project and thought that I would blip a stranger from today’s protest.

This is Sandra Leckie, who believes that it’s important to take a stand on issues that you believe in. As she said, “If not now, when?” It would be disastrous to wait until there’s an accident to make our voices heard. We must take a stand when it comes to protecting our coast, climate, environment.

This was one of at least 130 protests taking place across Canada today."
