Avebury

I chose the wrong day to go shopping in Marlborough because it turned out that the Mop Fair was underway and the High Street had been closed off to traffic. Not only was there ghastly noise and crowds, but there was also greatly reduced parking availability in the surrounding areas. A bawling toddler in the Waitrose café necessitated a coffee to go, consumed in the welcome peace by the riverside in Kennet Place, on a chair and table very kindly made available by the residents there.

On the way home I detoured to the village of Avebury and communed with the sheep among the ancient standing stones in the south-west quadrant.
